Knowing that Edward Cummings, father of the poet and artist, e. e. cummings, had built one of the first cottages in 1910, the author sensed there was more to the story than Cummings' large cottage called "Abenaki". Continuing his quest, Mr. Bubb soon became aware than Edward Cummings had built other cottages - some rather grand for summer homes. The author's story reveals the many outstanding contributions made by the summer residents in their field of expertise. While not aware locally at the time, these professionals were taking giant steps which would benefit mankind. When interviewing the owners of these rustic establishments, Mr. Bubb found that many local folks were involved in the upkeep of these summer residences; therefore, he began gathering their memories which added another dimension to the stories of these century-old cottages and lodges among the giant pines.
